Frequently asked questions about Structural Engineering
Do I need a structural engineer to remove a load-bearing wall?
Almost always. Most jurisdictions require stamped calculations and a beam design showing the new load path before they issue the permit. We prepare the calculations and the framing detail together.
What do you need to start structural work?
A floor plan or sketch with dimensions, photos of the area, and your address so we can apply the correct wind, seismic and snow criteria. If you have an existing permit set or survey, send that too.
Are calculations included or billed separately?
The calculation package is part of the structural deliverable, not an extra line item. Responding to plan review comments on our own drawings is also included.
