Frequently asked questions about Home Addition Plans
Do I need structural drawings for a home addition?
Yes for almost any addition. New floor, wall and roof loads have to reach the ground through the existing structure, and the jurisdiction will want stamped calculations showing that path.
Can you work from my existing house plans?
Yes, and it speeds things up. If you do not have them, we can work from measurements and photos, or you can often request the original permit set from your building department.
What if my existing foundation is not strong enough?
We check that first. If it needs underpinning or a new footing at the connection, we design it and show it on the drawings rather than leaving it for the inspector to discover.
